Introduction:
This week, Pastor Bobby reminded us that life is full of appointments—meetings, celebrations, and responsibilities that fill our calendars. But among all these appointments, there is one that stands out above the rest: the appointment we have with our Creator. This is an appointment we cannot cancel or delay, for it is part of God’s eternal plan for each of us.
In Hebrews 9:27, we are reminded that “it is appointed unto men once to die, and after that the judgment.” This verse speaks to a universal truth—every life has a purpose, and our time here on Earth is finite. Our appointment with death is set, and after that, we will face the ultimate judgment. But in this sobering truth lies a powerful reminder that our lives are not accidental; they are divinely appointed.
God has a specific purpose for each one of us, and this purpose is woven into the fabric of our existence. In Romans 8:28, we are assured that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” This is the divine purpose that cannot be derailed by time, circumstance, or our own fears. God has set an appointment for us—not just for death, but for life. A life filled with purpose, meaning, and direction according to His plan.
This purpose is not just about what we do, but about who we are becoming in Christ. Every experience, every challenge, and every victory serves to shape us into the individuals God has destined us to be. Just as a well-crafted piece of art is made with intention, so too is our life purpose, designed by the Creator to fulfill a unique role in His Kingdom.
The reality of our appointment with death should not bring fear, but rather a sense of urgency to live purposefully today. We are given only a limited time on Earth to fulfill God’s calling for our lives, and He desires that we live each moment in alignment with His divine purpose.
Consider the life of Jesus, who knew His purpose was to give His life for humanity. He understood His divine appointment, and with every step He took, He fulfilled God’s plan. His life was not defined by circumstance, but by the calling He was sent to fulfill. In the same way, God calls us to live with purpose and intentionality, knowing that our ultimate destination is with Him.
The appointment with death is inevitable, but we do not face it without hope. For those who walk in the purpose of God, there is a peace that transcends understanding. Our purpose is not confined to the days we have on Earth, but is a part of God’s eternal plan for our lives.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the purpose You have set for my life. I recognize that my time on Earth is limited, but my calling is eternal. Help me to live each day with intention, trusting that in every moment You are working all things together for my good. May I walk in the purpose You have appointed for me, knowing that my life is in Your hands, and that You have a plan for my future. Amen.
